What Will I Study?
Can you see yourself as a future �Bake off� contestant? Or is your cooking as experimental as Heston�s? If the answer is yes, then this course could be for you!
You will focus on practical cooking skills so that you develop a greater understanding of nutrition, food provenance (where food comes from) and food science. At its heart, this qualification focuses on nurturing your practical cookery skills and gives you an understanding of nutrition and the role it plays in health. These skills will benefit you for the rest of your life!

How Will I Learn?
Through studying this GCSE, you will:
Develop cooking skills by planning, preparing and cooking using different foods, techniques and equipment.
Learn about the functional properties, chemical processes and nutritional content of different food.
Understand the relationship between diet, nutrition and health.
Explore the economic, environmental, ethical and socio-cultural influences on food availability, production processes and diet and health choices.
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of functional and nutritional properties, sensory qualities and microbiological food safety considerations in food preparation.
Explore a range of ingredients and processes from different culinary traditions (traditional British and International).

Component 1 - Principles of Food Preparation and Nutrition
Written Examination, 1 hour 45 minutes (50%)
Component 2 - Food Preparation and Nutrition in Action
Practical based Scientific Food Investigation, 8hours (15%)
Practical based Food Preparation Assessment, 12 hours (35%)
