Why choose this course?

This qualification has been designed to account for a third of a two-year, full-time study programme for learners who are intending to go onto further study in a related sector. It supports access to a range of higher education courses if taken as part of a programme of study that includes another BTEC or A Level alongside.

Careers and Higher Education

This qualification is generally taken alongside other qualifications as part of a 2-year programme of learning. This will enable learners to progress to a degree programme chosen from a range of programmes in the Health and Social Care Sector. The qualification is intended to carry UCAS points and is recognised by higher education institutions as contributing to meeting admission requirements to many relevant courses. It can be taken alongside, for example:
An A Level in Biology, which could lead to a BSc (Hons) in Nursing or Midwifery
An A Level in Sociology, which could lead to a BA (Hons) in Social Work
A BTEC Certificate in Sport, which could lead to a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy
An A Level in Psychology, which could lead to a BSc (Hons) in Psychology.

Assessment

Equivalent in size to one A Level

4 units of which 3 are mandatory and 2 are external.

Unit 1 – Human Lifespan Development ( 90GLH External)

Unit 2 – Working in Health & Social Care (120GLHExternal)

Unit 5 – Meeting Individual Care and Support needs (90GLH Internal )

Unit 14 – Physiological Disorders and their Care ( 60GLH Internal

Entry Requirements

Grade 5 in GCSE Mathematics
Grade 5 in GCSE English Language
