Why choose this course?

This qualification has been designed to account for a third of a two-year, full-time study programme for learners who are intending to go onto further study in a related sector. It supports access to a range of higher education courses if taken as part of a programme of study that includes another BTEC or A Level alongside.

The course offers a lot of opportunities for transferable skills to be implemented such as :

1. Managing Yourself: Taking personal responsibility; Personal strengths and resilience; Career orientation planning; Personal goal setting

2. Effective Learning: Managing own learning; Continuous learning; Secondary research skills Primary research skills

3. Interpersonal Skills: Written communications; Verbal and non-verbal communications; Teamwork; Cultural and social intelligence

4. Solving Problems: Critical thinking; Problem solving; Creativity and innovation

Careers and Higher Education

This qualification is generally taken alongside other qualifications as part of a 2-year programme of learning. This will enable learners to progress to a degree programme chosen from a range of programmes in the Health and Social Care Sector. The qualification is intended to carry UCAS points and is recognised by higher education institutions as contributing to meeting admission requirements to many relevant courses. It can be taken alongside, for example:

An A Level in Biology, which could lead to a BSc (Hons) in Nursing or Midwifery

An A Level in Sociology, which could lead to a BA (Hons) in Social Work

A BTEC Certificate in Sport, which could lead to a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy

An A Level in Psychology, which could lead to a BSc (Hons) in Psychology

BTEC Level 3
(equivalent to one A Level)

Assessment

Equivalent in size to one A Level.
4 units of which 3 are mandatory and 1 is optional.
Unit 1 – Human Lifespan Development (90GLH External)
Unit 2 – Human Biology and Health (90GLHExternal)
Unit 3 – Principles of Health and Social Care Practice (90GLH Internal)

Choose 1 of:
Unit 4 – Health, Policy and Wellbeing (90GLH Internal)
Unit 5 – Promoting Health Education (90GLH Internal )
Unit 6 – Safe Environments in Health and Social Care (90GLH Internal )
Unit 7 – Health Science (90GLH Internal )

Entry Requirements

Grade 5 in GCSE Mathematics or Statistics
Grade 5 in GCSE English Language
Grade 5 in GCSE Biology
