Invictus Education Trust Chief Executive Officer

Where we differ from other multi academy trusts is our intention to collaborate, in every way.

This starts with the ‘Invictus Culture’ which has seen all of our schools, and Sixth Form, adopt a shared vision, mission and set of values.

Invictus Vision

Our communities will have access to an outstanding education. Our schools and 6th form cater for the social, economic and cultural diversity that our country is comprised of and deliver opportunities and experiences that celebrate that diversity. We are to be locally based, but nationally important.

Invictus Mission

We exist to provide our schools with the resources to offer independent minded education to their communities.  Our academic focus is on progress. We achieve this with exceptional teaching delivered by outstanding teachers, who are supported by an outstanding team. We provide our students with unique opportunities and elite experiences allowing them to thrive in whatever they pursue.

Invictus Values

Value One – Every day, in every way, our students come first

Our first and most important value.

Value Two – Anything is possible

We focus on the challenge to identify it, our energy is spent finding a solution.

Value Three – Accountability

If it is to be, it is to be me.

Value Four – Seek and seize opportunities

We aim to deliver ‘WOW’ through opportunities and experiences.

Value Five – Focus on relationships and all else will follow

Open, honest and empathic relationships with clear and simple communication are the foundations of our Trust.

Value Six – Start with the end in mind

We identify our aspiration and put processes in place to exceed expectations. We celebrate our progress throughout the journey.

Value Seven – Think Collaboratively

We always ask ourselves; can we include more students, more of our team or more of our schools in everything we do?

See our culture brought to life with the film below

Welcome to your Virtual Tour & Induction

Mr Lopez

Either dive in to the tabs below to find out more about each area of the school, or if you are a little unsure, watch the video directly above to familiarise yourself with lay out of the induction and tour!

We take great pride in the production level of all media we send out to our communities. We believe in delivering the very best for our parents, carers and students, but we hope you appreciate, during this unprecedented time most of our team’s introduction films have been made on ‘selfie’ mode in their own homes! We believe the content of each video is of a much higher value than risking our team’s well being to create more professional films, we hope you do too!

Welcome from our Year 7 Students

A number of our amazing students have decided to write you a letter, to explain how they felt when they were in your position last year, and what they found when they joined us, Lucie has even made a short video for you! How fantastic!

Welcome to Art

Art is an absorbing and exciting subject with creativity at its heart. It takes you on a journey from the basics of a broad-based art education, to that of a skilled artist, investigating personal ideas, and specialising with chosen media, materials and techniques. This personalised approach to learning is a consistent feature throughout the Art experience at Wombourne High School. Art is both enjoyable and challenging, with activities that keep track of fast-improving skills and ambitions.

Year 7 students learn a range of drawing techniques, from both observation and imagination. They investigate the qualities and potential of a wide range of two- and three-dimensional media and materials. Students make a personalised cover for their sketchbook, learn about drawing, shading techniques and colour, experiment with clay, and how to create a self-portrait. Practical skills develop in exciting ways and the fantastic artwork produced is displayed both in the classroom and around the school.  We have weekly and well attended Art Clubs, at lunch time and after school.

Art is taught by Mr Carr (Head of Faculty) and Mrs Stokes (who is also Head of the Sixth Form). They have worked together for a number of years, nurturing and challenging the skills and talents of many Wombourne students.

Welcome to Business

The Business Studies curriculum aims to develop:

Knowledge and understanding of business concepts and terminology. To fully understand the integrated nature of business activity and the impact on business individuals and other stakeholders. To build on the literary focus of Wombourne High School students and promote the use of key terminology in all circumstances.

To apply knowledge and understanding to contemporary business issues and to different sizes of business and situations in order to suitably prepare students for the structure of the specification exams. To investigate and analyse real bushiness contexts and build well developed, well argued, well justified structured arguments demonstrating a breadth of business knowledge. Where we build inquisitive learners with a passion for the subject and use this to read around the subject and explore wider business issues.  To use quantitate and qualitative skills relevant to business when interpreting data in real world context and support the maths curriculum at Wombourne High School in doing so.  At Wombourne high school we offer GCSE Business, BTEC Enterprise and A Level Business in the sixth form.

Welcome to Computing – Mr Gubby

Hi and welcome to Computer Science!

In the first three years at the school, you will all have computer science lessons in which we teach a variety of skills that cover both computer science and iMedia.  Each year is designed so that you experience modules from each subject area in an alternating fashion.  What this means is in each year, you will have an equal amount of computer science and iMedia modules so if you want to continue studying either of these subjects when you get to year 10, you already have a good understanding of what the subjects are about.

In terms of the computer science curriculum, we teach a variety of topics that cover different aspects of computing such as computer systems, which includes learning about hardware and software and how computers actually work, computational thinking which, although it sounds complicated is actually learning about how computers process things in a logical way and you will learn how to create algorithms (step by step instructions).  You will also learn how to program using a variety of languages and will put these into practice using software such as scratch, which you may have experience of already, IDLE which uses python and Dreamweaver to create html pages. You will also learn how to use different office applications effectively such as presentation, word processing and spreadsheet software.

In iMedia modules, you can show off your creative side when you learn how to create digital graphics, using combinations of vector and bitmap graphics.  You will learn how to create animations, develop your html skills, focusing on the design and layout of websites and make video games, all using appropriate software.  Throughout these iMedia modules, you will learn the process of media product production using the plan, design, create and review format.  Examples of software you will use within iMedia include Photoshop, Animate, Dreamweaver and Game Maker.  Similarly to Computer Science, you will also learn how to use different office applications effectively such as presentation and word processing applications.

We hope that by studying these topics, you will have sufficient knowledge and skills to help you easily transition to our key stage four qualifications of Computer Science GCSE and Cambridge Nationals in Creative iMedia should you choose to do so. Even if you don’t choose to continue studying these subjects later on in school, our main aim is for you to have fun and enjoy your learning during your time in our lessons.

Take care and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Welcome to D and T

Design and Technology is an enjoyable and hands-on subject. Students have the chance to research, design and create their own products whilst developing new skills with the use of specialist tools and equipment from our workshop. One of the key projects in year 7 is getting to create and solder a night light circuit, which can be personally themed and taken home afterwards. We run several clubs and have more planned for next year, including the opportunity to participate in STEM activities and trips outside of school to places like RAF Cosford. Miss Perry is the subject lead in Design Technology. DT is also supported by our technician, Mr Orton.

Unique Opportunities and Elite Experiences

Being part of a multi academy trust, the Invictus Education Trust, means that we can offer our students countless opportunities and experiences, see below for some examples, all including students from our school!

Welcome To Drama

In Drama, Year 7 students begin to build their foundation skills that enable them to create interesting and detailed characters. Students explore a range of performance skills (physical and vocal), bringing characters to life through the use of role play. Activities for Term 1 are based around the famous Roald Dahl story ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’. During this time, students help to recreate some of the fantastical characters, creating their own version of events and taking part in a chocolate machine building competition. There is also an opportunity to join a year 7 Drama club, and to audition for and perform in school productions. Drama is once a week so make sure you come to your lessons with lots of energy and enthusiasm. Miss Hackett is the subject lead in Drama and Performing Arts.

Welcome to English

During Year 7 students are taught three essential units, Character construction, Thematic analysis and English over time. Within these unit students are exposed to a wide range of extracts from both pre and post 19th Century texts, literary text types and non-fiction and fiction. The rationale being that by the end of this year all students will have a basic foundation of the key aspects of literature and language study that are essential to access and non-fiction or fiction text higher up the school. Students are consistently taught how writers present aspects in fiction or non fiction texts and then are given the opportunity to re-recreate these themselves refining their own creative skills and re-aligning the balance between reading and writing skills.

As a school we aim to install a love of reading and in light of this a lesson a fortnight is dedicated to reading. During this time students read a whole class text and have some time to read independently as we aim to reinforce a love of literature.

Welcome to Maths

In Maths through variety in lessons and via our specialist subject teaching we aim to develop:

  • Fluency of basic numeracy skills and recall of key mathematical knowledge through varied and frequent practise with increasingly challenging concepts and problems over time. Pupils will develop their mathematical understanding and the ability to recall and apply knowledge rapidly and accurately.
  • The ability to solve problems by applying mathematics to a variety of routine and non-routine problems by breaking down problems into a series of simpler steps and persevering in seeking solutions.  This will have an application to the real world and prepare pupils for careers and job.
  • The ability to reason mathematically by conjecturing relationship and generalisations, developing arguments and proving statements using correct mathematical language.

Our intent at Wombourne is to implement a curriculum that enables ALL students to progress, succeed and attain in Mathematics and to ensure students have the confidence and aptitude to apply their mathematical skills. We believe that a learning environment that supports, challenges and caters for all will ensure that every student can graduate from Secondary School with a grade/achievement in Maths, enabling them to pursue their chosen route onto higher education or employment.

Welcome to French

Modern Foreign Languages at Wombourne.

When students join us in year 7, the aim of the Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) department is to introduce students to the basics in both French and Spanish. We focus lots on pronunciation, by working on both listening and speaking skills and we use a range of teaching and learning strategies to encourage students to speak in the Target language. We use games, songs and fun activities to build confidence and opportunities to listen and speak as much as possible.

The basics include: greetings, numbers, personal details such as name, age and birthdays. Talking about pets and family members as well as being able to describe your appearance and personality.

In addition to MFL lessons, we have a Culture Club that runs during a lunchtime and this is supported by out Language Ambassadors (MFL GCSE students) that lead the club and support youngsters. We run a variety of activities and clubs – such as an inter-house competition to support European Day of Languages, Great MFL Bake off to name a few.

At the end of year 7 we support you on deciding which language you would like to specialise in during year 8 and beyond.

Welcome to Psychology

Psychology – Sixth Form Only

The aim of the Psychology and Sociology curriculum is to equip students with the appropriate knowledge and skills needed to be able to understand and explain the causes of human behaviour and the impact of this behaviour on wider society. We do this using quality first teaching which ensures students understand underlying Psychological and Sociological principles and can apply them in a variety of familiar and unfamiliar contexts. We want our ‘Invictus Sixth’ students to be able to think analytically and reach logical conclusions based on scientific evidence. Our curriculum at Wombourne High School goes far beyond what is taught in lessons, for whilst we want students to achieve the very best examination results possible, we believe our curriculum goes beyond what is examinable. Our curriculum in Psychology and Sociology constantly challenges our students to work collaboratively and think independently when engaging in all lessons and class debates.

Welcome to Science

In Science we help to instil, develop, and encourage a sense of awe and wonder about how our world around us works! We teach with a spiral curriculum so that the key skills and concepts we cover at Key Stage 3 can be developed and built upon as each pupil progresses through the school. Pupils are encouraged to use their investigation skills both within school and at home to help to develop their understanding of the wider world!

In Year 7 we study the 3 disciplines of Science – Biology, Chemistry and Physics – in discrete topics across the curriculum. Many Topics will have links between the disciplines, which we encourage pupils to discover for themselves, as they make connections during their own investigations and explanations. Pupils will have the opportunity to develop their practical skills throughout their time with us, helping to secure their understanding of the subject content as well as preparing them for future study.
