Year 7 Transition

We have developed close liaison arrangements with partner primary schools to ensure that the transfer of students to Wombourne is as smooth as possible.

Before transfer actually takes place Miss Thornthwaite, who leads our Transition Programme, ensures that every child is visited in their primary school to discuss the transfer to Wombourne and arranges discussions with primary teachers to talk about individual aptitudes and needs.

All students spend an induction period with us in the summer during which they experience typical lessons and generally familiarise themselves with the buildings and school campus. They can even sample our excellent school lunches!

During the summer term there is a meeting for parents whose children will be starting at the school in September 2020. During this evening children and parents are provided with further detailed information about the school.  We also run two evenings during the summer term where parents can become familiar with the Year 7 curriculum and teaching and learning at Wombourne through our Extended Learning Programme.

When students start in September they follow an induction programme, led by their Tutor, which helps to manage the early challenges of transition and the new term.

We have an enthusiastic team of student mentors who support new students throughout the transition process. The contribution of these students has been highly praised in previous years.
