Ounsdale High School (now Wombourne High School) became an academy on 1st March 2015 after ceasing to be a maintained school and joining Invictus Education Trust. Wombourne High School, along with Ellowes Hall Sports College in Gornal, The Crestwood School in Kingswinford and Kinver High School in Kinver are the founder members of this Multi Academy Trust.
When a school becomes an academy, an Academy Order is made by the Secretary of State. The predecessor school is closed and a new school, the academy, is established. The new academy is legally a new school, even though in many cases it is likely to comprise the same pupils, teachers and buildings.
Academies and Ofsted Inspections
Ounsdale High School (now Wombourne High School) was inspected in March 2018. The school was judged to be good for Personal development, Behaviour and Welfare, but was judged to require improvement in other key areas. Since the Ofsted inspection in March 2018 the leadership team has been remodelled, including the appointment of a new Headteacher (September 2018). Academic results in 2018 and 2019 are good, and many of the areas highlights by Ofsted as requiring improvement are now firmly good. It is expected that Ofsted will return to inspect the school at some point in 2019 – 2020, the school is confident that it is providing a good education for the young people it serves.
Parent View is an online questionnaire that allows parents and carers to give their views about their child’s school at any time. It is also the main mechanism for parents to give their views about their child’s school to inspectors at the time of a school inspection. Once the school is notified of an inspection parents will be invited to contribute to Parent View if they have not already done so.
